The Process of  Generation of Acetylene Gas

In industrial acetylene production, the calcium carbide process has become the mainstream technology due to its maturity and broad applicability. The reaction between calcium carbide and water generates acetylene, which takes place in an acetylene generator. This can be done using either a dry or wet process. In the wet process, calcium carbide is added to water, while in the dry process, water is sprayed onto the calcium carbide.


The produced acetylene gas must pass through a purification tower to remove impurities such as hydrogen sulfide and phosphine, improving its purity. Following this, the acetylene gas is pressurized using a compressor and further purified and dehydrated in an oil-water separator and a dryer. Finally, the purified acetylene gas is filled into steel cylinders containing acetone to form dissolved acetylene, ensuring safe storage and transportation.
